Richard A. (Rick) Brown

John Bumgartner Richard A. (Rick) Brown, Jr. is a senior partner at Brown, Readdick, Bumgartner whose practice is primarily in products liability and transportation litigation. He is admitted to practice in all of the state trial and appellate courts of Georgia and Florida as well as all district courts in Georgia and the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida. He is further admitted to the Eleventh Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Brown received his BBA degree from Loyola University in 1969 and his J.D. Degree from the University of Georgia in 1972. While at the University of Georgia, he was a member of the Editorial Board of the Georgia Law Review. He was admitted to practice in Georgia in 1972 and in Florida in 1973. He has tried over 100 civil cases to jury verdict as well as in excess of 300 worker's compensation and other administration trials.

He is a former President of the Brunswick Glynn County Bar Association and is currently a member of the Georgia Defense Lawyers, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Roscoe Pound Institute and American Board of Trial Advocates.

Representative cases which he has handled include:

  • Jones v. Honda, a products liability suit in which the operator of a motorcycle sustained catastrophic injuries allegedly as the result of design and manufacturing defects in the motorcycle. After a ten day trial in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, the jury returned a verdict for the Defendants.

  • In Karoly v. Kawasaki, the Plaintiff alleged catastrophic injuries as the result of a defect in a Jet Ski® which he was operating and which was subsequently subject to a recall for high speed instability. Following a two week trial in the State Court of Fulton County, the jury returned a verdict for all Defendants.

  • In Cartrette v. Carolina Transport, the Plaintiffs sought damages for the wrongful death of a wife and mother who was struck and killed by a tractor trailer. Following a jury trial in the Superior Court of Pierce County, the jury returned a verdict for all defendants.

  • In a malpractice suit against a large medical facility, Mr. Brown represented a brain damaged child which resulted in a confidential seven figure settlement on the child's behalf.
